Biggest difference living in Netherlands and Western Europe compared to US
Biggest difference living in Netherlands/Western Europe for last 2 months, people are less ambitious and care way less about success here
Which is both good and bad, people in Europe seem more satisfied and laidback, but also more complacent and stagnant
There's less of a status-based judgement here, it's mostly character-based
So for example: in Europe you win if you survive banter, in US you win if you're successful (big generalization)
Achievement probably comes from a strong dissatisfaction with how things are now, if you're already happy then no need for it
My girlfriend asked me "why is hardly anyone you know in NL doing creative/ambitious stuff?", and I was like ummmm "they're happy already?"
