A few years ago I sold all my stuff to explore the world, creating 12 startups in 12 months and building $1M+/y in companies as an indie maker such as Nomad List and Remote OK. I'm also a big pusher of remote work and try to analyze the effects it will have on society. Follow me on Twitter or see my list of posts. My first book MAKE is out now.

What if your ambitions are too high?

Jim (from Rasa) and I had this track concept in our head for awhile. With a higher degree of ambition, you will have to work harder to reach it and at some point you won’t have the time or mental resources to have another person in your life.

It’s this typical infinite struggle and if the balance goes awry, you end up having to leave that other person.

We wrote the track in a day and recorded the instrumental for it, the title of the track came up quickly as “Verder”. This can be loose translated to “Go on”, as in, the main character has to go on with his life aiming for success while leaving his former life with his girlfriend.

The video had to fit the concept and thus we thought of visualizing the symbolism of the main character running away from his old life.

To achieve the gold lighting, we shot the video in the morning at 5AM and in the evening around 7PM mostly from the back of a moving car in Amsterdam without any stabilization.

The track received 10,000 plays on YouTube and was included on Dutch national radio’s 3VOOR12 Luisterpaal and covered on many Dutch music blogs such as PUNA.

P.S. I wrote a book on building indie startups called MAKE. And I'm on Twitter too if you'd like to follow more of my stories. I don't use email so tweet me your questions. Or you can see my list of posts. To get an alert when I write a new blog post, you can subscribe below:
